Calverro Founder Sarah Enwright: Inspired by What Was Missing

There’s something about a challenge that motivates Sarah Enwright. The amateur jumper rider founded Calverro to create a solution to a void she found in equestrian apparel– breeches that fit, flatter and function, made from high-quality fabrics at an attainable price. It turns out that her adult amateur barn mates felt the same way. Over wine and appetizers, she learned what bothered her friends most about equestrian apparel and in particular, breeches. Let’s face it, breeches aren’t flattering for most amateurs.

It’s all about the fabrics

So, Sarah set off to design and manufacture a comfortable breech with a more flattering fit. She searched high and low for comfy, yet durable Ponte fabric (that is great at hiding lumps and bumps!). She designed a higher waistband that doesn’t gap, added silicon for grip and the Calverro schooling breeches were born.

Along the way, she tapped into her creative side and inner designer to produce a line of modern equestrian basics including Calverro’s signature “Perfect” show coat. She waited to find the ultimate, luxe Italian fabric to introduce her show breeches. In fact, Sarah found what she loved most about the process was sourcing functional, high-quality fabrics. It all starts with the  right fabric.

Sarah’s inspiration

Originally from the East Coast, Sarah grew up in New England where she grew up with a love for horses and competitive sailing. In 2013, she moved West to Southern California. Her designs are influenced by East Coast prep (check out her Instagram at @eastcoaststyl) merged with a laid-back Cali vibe. Calverro recognizes the tradition of the sport while integrating technical fabrics and modern design elements.

It is important to Sarah that the Calverro brand combines passion for horses and equestrian sport and the community, with an emphasis on being sustainable and responsible. As an example of the brand values, she eliminated the typical plastic wrap when she designed Calverro’s eco-friendly packaging.

Sarah rides in the Del Mar area with her friend and trainer Jasmin Stair. Bocelli, her handsome bay Warmblood gelding, makes an appearance in some of Calverro’s content. She competes in the Low Adult Amateur jumpers and in the occasional adult equitation or medal class. She has dabbled in polo, a sport she truly misses playing. When designing the line, Sarah’s varied equestrian experience inspired styles that would work as well in the show or schooling ring as they would on the polo field.
